“Our successes and failures come and go – they neither define us nor do they determine our worthiness.” – Kristin Neff
Background
Anny is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor who is passionate about collaborating with each patient to come up with their own unique set of goals. Anny is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity. She enjoys empowering clients to live life authentically, recognize their strengths, and embrace radical self-acceptance. Anny particularly enjoys working with adults, teens, women, couples, and those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Originally from California, Anny received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of California, Davis (UCD) with highest honors for her contribution to the field of psychology. While attending UCD, Anny conducted research on the neural pathways involved in the development of empathy in children. Anny went on to receive her Master of Science in Counselor Education with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Sacramento. Anny conducted research on couples therapy, disenfranchised grief in the coming out process of trans people, and non-suicidal self-injury. Anny gained experience working with adults, children, groups, and couples with limited financial resources.
Approach & Values
Anny enjoys using a strengths-based and solution focused approach in therapy by helping clients recognize strengths they already possess and empowering them to utilize those strengths in new ways. She utilizes a socio-emotional relationship therapy approach when working with couples to acknowledge how the world shapes our roles, rules, and expectations of relationships.
Anny believes having access to quality mental health care should be a right for everyone, not a privilege saved for only a few. She uses a person-centered approach in treatment as she believes the connection between the client and clinician is the foundation by which all great things can be built. Anny comes from a place of unconditional positive regard, is genuine in her interactions, and fosters a judgment-free space for you to explore your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Using cognitive behavioral methods, you can see how your thoughts are directly linked to your emotions and can learn new ways to understand and organize these thoughts that influence your emotions. Anny enjoys working together to identify harmful thought patterns and collaborate to come up with ways to challenge these thoughts. Overall, Anny believes that you are the expert in your own life. Only you know how you think, feel, and experience the world and I am here to listen so we can both get a better understanding of what it means for you.
